[챗GPT/ChatGPT 도움 받아 영어로 문자 보내기] 예전 이웃분들께 안부와 감사 전하기

챗GPT 때문에 여러 가지 말들도 많고.... 우려 섞인 전망도 나오고...
저도 살짝살짝 무섭기도 하고...
그러면서도 잘 활용해야 하는데.. 하며 조바심이 들기도 합니다.
일단 저는 일상생활에서 한영 번역에 도움을 받고 있어요.
물론 그냥 내용 파악이 필요할 때 영한 번역으로는 구글 번역기를 자주 사용하고 있지만
좀더 어감을 살린 영어 표현이 필요할 때 챗GPT를 활용합니다. 

2020년 여름에 뉴저지로 이사오기 전까지 
저희는 미국 북서부 워싱턴주 시애틀 옆 벨뷰라는 곳에서 10년 가까이 살았어요.
하지만 게으름과 용기 부족으로 영어 실력 향상은 거의 없는 이상한? 미국생활이었죠. ^^; 
사실 지금도 그렇고요. 부끄럽지만 사실입니다. 

그래서 저희에게 따뜻한 호의를 보여준 분들께 죄송한 마음이 컸어요.
더 많이 대화하고 사랑과 정을 나눌 수도 있었을 텐데...
익숙하지 않은 미국생활,...
저희 마음 그릇도 아직 작았고, 
언어 장벽도 크게 다가왔고...
라며 핑계 아닌 핑계를 대봅니다. 

뉴저지로 이사오기 직전에 살았던 벨뷰의 어느 아파트에서 
저희는 노인/장애인 전용 건물에 살았어요.
남편이 장애가 있는데 마침 그 건물에 자리가 나서... 
그때 저희 빼고는 거의 다 백인 노인분들이셨는데 
저희 딸이 5살인가 그럴 때여서 많이들 귀여워해주시고 선물도 주시고 그랬답니다. 
말하자면 그 건물에서는 최연소 주민이었던 셈이죠. ^^ 

특히나 발렌타인데이, 크리스마스, 부활절 등 어떤 특별한 날이 되면
저희 아파트 문 앞에 선물이 놓여있곤 했는데 
제일 자주 선물을 해주시던 분들이 계셨어요. 
그 두 분이 문득 문득 생각이 났는데
오랜만에 작정하고 안부 문자를 보냈어요. 

그랬더니 답을 주셨더라고요. 
남편 되시는 분이 망막박리로 한쪽 눈의 시력을 잃으셨다는 소식, 
무릎 관절 수술을 받으셨다는 소식이었어요. 
그래도 잘 적응하면서 운전도 하고 다니신다고...

그래서 답 문자를 쓰다가... 
제 진심을 전달하기에는 저의 영어가 너무 수준이 낮고 답답해서 
챗GPT 도움을 받아 좀 길게, 마음을 담은 문자를 써서 보내봤습니다. 

표현하지 않으면 알 수 없는 게 마음인 거 같아요.
부부 사이에서도 그러한데...
내 마음으로 아무리 감사하고 또 그리워한들,
그 마음을 전하지 않으면 그분들은 알 수가 없죠... 

오늘 저는 챗 GPT 에 대한 걱정보다는 
개발한 분들에 대해 감사한 마음을 갖게 되었어요. 
어떤 도구도 악에 이용될 수 있고
선에 이용될 수 있죠. 

어차피 이 땅의 삶은 언젠가 끝나게 될 거예요.
우리 각자가 각자의 자리에서 
하나님의 나라와 그 의를 구할 때
어두워져 가는 세상일지라도 
빛은 더 밝게 드러나 어둠을 물리치게 되리라 믿습니다. 

한 줄의 글, 한마디 말, 미소띤 인사, 따뜻한 손길, 작은 선물로
사랑을 전하는 하루하루 되길 소망하며

I am sorry to hear the news that T____ has lost vision in one of his eyes. However, I am glad to know that he is adapting well.
